10 SUI and La Resistance Exclusive Interview coming soon!
10 SUI - BIOG
10 Sui DJ/producer described as ‘adding feminine charm and electronic soul’ to the dance scene, has been taking part in underground and main stage events for over 10 years first as club promoter, then DJ, now as Producer. Electronic and detroit sounds were very much the inspiration for getting into music and early tours with Ninja Tune’s DJ Food and Hexstatic, opened up the doors for mixing music with visuals. In ‘98 she played Sonar’s electronic music festival with Coldcut, cutting up original electro with the breakbeat sound that was emerging around the late 90’s. In 2000 Rennie Pilgrem asked her to mix the TCR 50th mix CD, one of the first breakbeat compilations of it’s time. Between 2000 - 2003 she clocked up 7 tours of the USA and Canada promoting her particular flavour of electro breaks, remixing tracks along the way and producing new ones. A collaboration with West Palms Freakin Music ‘ Dub Species’ resulted in an Orb inspired acid breakbeat track called ‘The Dose’ - released on TCR’s sister US label ‘Native’ with a remix by US electro headliners Jackal and Hyde. 10 Sui continued to clock up the airmiles travelling to Australia and New Zealand on what was to be an annual trip to the festivals downunder, where breakbeat was beginning to take a massive rise in popularity. Making her name alongside the likes of Tim Simenon (Bomb The Bass), Freeland, Roots Manuva on the ‘Vibes on a Summers’ Day’ tours and Tim Deluxe on the ‘Summerdayze’ festivals in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. 10 SUi really sculpted her sound and learnt how to cut it on these tours alongside some of the major players on the circuit. Learning that playing outdoors were where she comes into her own ‘Very little comes close to playing a set to sunrise out in the desert....’ ‘Music is about the journey for me....’ you can hear this in her productions - her deep sound has caught the attention of Leftfields’ Paul Daley, Annie Nightingale and ILs who commissioned her ‘Go Deeper’ track to feature on his Y4K mix album on Distinctive. Heralded as ‘The First Lady of Breaks’ and having carved her niche in a very competitive industry her expansion into the deeper more detroit sounding electro house vibe, has meant she has shared the decks with the talents of Josh Wink, Funk D’void, Silicon Soul, John Aquaviva to name a few. Sets at some of Europes leading venues and international festivals such as The End, London; Decadance, Gent; Panama, Amsterdam; Home, Sydney, D Club, Lausanne; Locomia, The Algarve; Family, Toledo; Winkle van Sinkel, Utrecht; Haoman 17, Tel Aviv; Custard Factory, Birmingham; Audio, Brighton... Sonar - Barcelona, Cream - Jakata .... ....with repeated requests for sets on Radio 1, iDJ magazine sum it up perfectly: ...”This Sista is definitely doing it for herself.......”
