Gelaz - Party Breaks Session Mix
1. When and how have you started produced music? What was the thing that influenced you the most in order to start producing? My history as a producer is maybe standard and ordinary, it started in my deep youth as i was grew from hip-hop culture, all about rapping, breakdancing, scrathing, graffiti writing… I started making beats for my friends rappers, we had a rap and b-boys band event, but unfortunately it wan’t exist so long. Anyway, music was always next to me, I made off musical school on the class of fortepiano and it helps me to develop my musical taste until now. 2. Let us know your inspirations (musically and not) in the beginning of your career. Did those inspirations change now? I used to experiment a lot with mixing different sounds genres, while The Prodigy’s “Fat Of The Land” come in my hands. For me this was a masterpiece of music, I began to follow this kind of style, like “Hard Hop Heathen” collections and others old-school breakbeat. Even now I listen all of them quite often, and they really help me to be inspired. It is sad that such kind of music is not so popular now, but I found touches of in Nu Skool Breaks scene and that is giving a lot of satisfaction. 3. Do you believe that you’re a talented producer? What is talent for you? Can a talented person lose he’s talent one day? Can he maintain it on a high level? If I did not feel possibilities in myself, I would not be engaged with music till today. Talent it only the 30% of all achievements, the persistence and permanent work are very important for sure and so is self-perfection. I am a bit lazy sometimes, and I’m trying to carefully contest with it. Sometimes it’s necessary to have a purpose and aspires to it in any way. As they said here in Belarus: “taking away talent is impossible”… 4. Let us know some things about the music scene in Belarus. What about the club/parties culture. Is the breaks scene alive in your country? Are there any talented producers/projects that we must be aware of? The scene always depends on those, who involved with it. It is possible to say, that I have devoted all my life so far to breaks, so I can say that something successful happened here. The last 3-4 years we have organised here many many breakbeat parties with such guests as Atomic Hooligan, Aquasky, Freestylers, The Magnet Men, Equalizers, Lady Waks and other top breakbeat artists, which promoted not only by me, and that means that scene is alive, and people love it. In the future I’m planning to organise a big breaks festival like those which take place in Spain. As you know Belarus is famous by such breaks bands as 4KUBA, ACCESS DENIED, also appeared talented and perspective live projects as THE PLAYFELLOW, DANDYSKILLS and others.. So prospects for growth of breaks culture are large enough here.  5. How can you personally describe your sound? In the beginning I was more into Hardcore and fast Breaks, but tastes change. As I have been influenced by modern sounds such as nu disco, indie dance a rate is slowed and I try to mix up my breakbeat nature with those styles. Now I’m searching for new influences and sounds in all electronic music, try to extract from every style something on my own, then add to this broken beats. I’m curious to see what will turn out from it… Anyway dirty basses and fat broken beats will remain always in my tracks. 6. What are your releases so far and what we have to expect in the near future? I’ve released a remix for V.I.M.BREAKS, it was for the “Wicked Style: track by HALOBEATZ and I can say that the remix was very successful on Beatport. My first single will be released quite soon on V.I.M.BREAKS and is called “INSIDE THE CAGE” and comes with remixes from LADY PACKA(SP), SOMSAY(CA), PALE THE KID (GR) and my friends from Belarus SWIS. I’m sure that it will be a great release! Also on the same label are coming soon some remixes for AUDIOTRUCS and SOMSAY’s new singles. Also a few tracks are already finished and I wait for answers from some cool labels. All things are ahead I suppose. 7. Did you djing also? What do you prefer the most and why, producing or djing? What do you believe are the main differences between them? Yeah, I put my djing on a hold from 2005 touring on all of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, playing with such artists as Aphrodite (UK), Atomic Hooligan (UK), The Magnet Men (UK), Equalizers (UK), Lady Waks (RU), Rasco (SP), Perfect Combo (SP), Halobeatz (DE), etc.. Many of these artists played on parties which I promoting as a member of promo group, but tastes with my partners were divided and now I work separately. I prefer to combine producing and djing, because it gives me pleasure to do them both. One can not exist without the other for me. 8. Do you play strictly breaks or do you mix in other genres also? I played only breaks before, but now I think about mixing it with nu disco and techno tracks. In any case I play only the things I truly like, only those tracks which I consider indeed good and quality ones. 9. What program are you using for your productions and why? Are you working on your productions very often? Almost all my way of producing I used FL Studio, by the last 2 years I prefer Ableton Live, because it’s really very comfortable, easy and quick to incarnate your ideas there. For sure in a complete set I use some vst plugins. If there is any spare time I try to expend it in work on a studio. 10. What is inspiring you today in order to write music? Did inspiration comes easily to you or you have to strive for it? It’s clear for me, I’m listening to as much music as I can in order to find a new idea for a track of mine, especially now because the majority of the new breaks tracks are not high-quality stuff. Now I do not limit myself in styles, I’m listening to everything from pop to hardcore. Inspiration easily comes after an excellent party or a great trip or simply from anywhere. 11.Do you feel that your debut in production was successful? What is success for you? What’s the cost of success and what can do you believe you can get/win from failure? Yes, I think that was sufficiently successful, my debut remix was sell good and got complimentary reviews. I always try to be better and better, and with every next release I feel like I’m reaching the next stage for achievement of success. To obtain a goal or a purpose it’s always necessary to sacrifice some things, for me it is my free time, my girlfriend, and the possibility to devote myself to somehing else. 12. What’s more important in your life, your choices or your influences? I think that I am a lucky person, my choices are coincided with my influences.
