Over the last eight years Brazil’s Universo Paralello (‘Parallel Universe’) has grown from a small gathering of Brazil’s psychedelic trance movers and shakers to become the best New Years Eve party on the planet. Imagine seven days and nights of amazing music and culture set in one of the most beautiful locations known to man.
Located on Pratigi Beach, found amongst the last remaining stretch of the Atlantic Rainforest, Universo Paralello is paradise found. The venue is a coconut farm on the beach six hours drive south of Brazil’s original capital Salvador De Bahia. After being dropped off in a car park on the edge of the rainforest you are whisked through the jungle and dropped off on the edge of the world. White sand underfoot and camping under grids of coconut trees provide your home for the next seven days. With raw jungle on one side and the beautiful endless turquoise expanse of the Atlantic ocean on the other, as you step onto the beach there is no sign of modern life in either direction, just picture postcard perfect white sand beaches lined by coconut trees and jungle melting into the clear, blue sea making this one of the most experiential parties on earth.
Music-wise, with a heavy leaning towards psychedelic culture, Trance is the mainstay of the main floor drawing a line up consisting of the biggest and best international psychedelic and progressive acts in the world. Elsewhere the Alternative dance floor features a mixture of electro, techno, minimal and progressive featuring a mixture of international and Brazilian talent. The Goa stage will make an appearance this year following last year’s success, add to this a chill out area featuring world music and dubbed out grooves and a live bands stage Universo Parallelo offers something for everyone.

One of the very first artists to sign to Hospital Records way back at the turn of the millennium, Danny Byrd’s own inimitable take on soulful, vocal Drum and Bass has become a staple in the scene. His use of house and R&B influences immediately began turning heads with his first Hospital singles Do it Again and Changes. Later that year when Radio 1's Fabio championed Danny's remix of London Elektricity’s Wishing Well, his status as a soulful DnB heavyweight was confirmed. Always favouring quality over quantity, Byrd’s remixes for High Contrast and contributions to the Weapons of Mass Creation albums help make up his select output.

Metachemical - Death by Misadventure Man, this dude is on a roll, and he aint even put out much yet. ever since i heard his forthcoming tune on scrape, i've been a fan and a half though. And this one is his best tune to date i think. Very bouncy techfunk, it's something that i'll personally drop in most of my sets for a while. i love the half traditional / half techfunky kicks in it, and just seriously, this will get a floor hopping. expect it to be massive. if it's not, i'm going to cry.

It's evil nine techfunky, and that aspect of it's cool. and i dig it and all, but it has this big trancey bit in the beginning that i think kills it. i was it the tune before it, and i was with the tune after it, but right at that point, they lose me. seriously though, the pre-build, and post build are something you evil nine-esque techfunk fans should take a listen to.
