Interview
Big up yourselfs! Thank you for taking some time off your busy production and djing schedule to answer some of our questions. So you chaps have been all over the world playing your dope vibes, what's your most anticipated event that you look forward to play at this year? Slyde: Parklife in Australia is a massive festival and we are very excited to be playin' 6 shows out there in September.
Your debut Slyde album ’Everyone’s Entitled To Our Opinion’ is now out on Finger Lickin’ Records, how do you feel about your slamming release? How long did your album take in the process? Slyde: After it takin' us 2 yrs it still sounds phat and fresh to us thankfully, its eclectic so we are just pleased it's bein' well received as a whole by everyone.
What is your favourite track that you guys put out on your album and why? Slyde: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is special to us 'cos it was the last track written under pressure for the album, the label wanted one more banger, and they got one plus it's hooky as f**k!
How was your album put together? Was it a collection of your current favourite beats? Or this is what you have visualized or wanted to do for a long time? Slyde: Our tracks reflect what music we have grown up and what we are influenced by now. The blueprint was cool thought about vocals over interesting electronic music. We dont just have beats we pull off the shelf like a lot of hip hop producers do.
What is your backgrounds? 100% British? Slyde: Great great grandparents were from Russia and Poland i'm told but it's mainly British beef,Tescos Finest in fact.
How did you two meet up to form the Slyde? Whats the real story here? Did you meet in a rave? Club? Slyde: We met in the stu stu studio at Bolshi records.Rob mixed my Laidback 'Frequency Delinquency' album. We realised we had similar tastes in music so we started writin' together and then we did slippedy slyde soon after.
How do you two make tracks together? Do you just go in the studio enviroment together and just try to bang it out? Whats your take on writing your fat tunes? Slyde: Sometimes we have an idea or we just jam or a vocal will influence which way a tune goes.Once it's soundin' like it's a decent track we spend about a month on it or go back to it months later just writin' other tracks in the meantime. There's no bangin' them out,I think you can tell when tracks haven't had much time spent on them.
Whats up this year now after this album release? Do you plan to put out more new singles? Slyde: Yep,it's nice to get remixes done of our singles.NAPT,Miles Dyson, Losers and Utah Saints are doin' us some.We are experimentin' again, doin' remixes, djin' and we've also put a live show together with our vocalists on the album.
How much time goes into a Slyde tune? How much time do you two spend in the studio? Slyde: Too long!
Who did all the cool artwork for your releases? Slyde: Jem at Finger Lickin is a genius, artwork's cool as f**k

What are you using to produce nowadays? Logic audio? Live ? Cubase? Slyde: Logic and our minds.
Do you require any weed smoking to write cool tracks? or your not smokers? Or it makes you too lazy in the studio...whats your take on pot heads in the studio? Slyde: Lazy enough and we eat loadsa munchies without the smokin'! Erm,each to their own man ;)

How did you first meet up with the Finger Lickn records crew? Slyde: Always knew them from being in the vinyl addiction shop and bumpin' into each other at various breaks nights. They're great,in it for the music and very supportive.
