Peo De Pitte Interview Genres: Electro / Rare-Groove London/Stockholm United Kingdom 1.First of all lets talk a little bit about the past. When and how have you started to get involved with electronic music? Which were the things that influenced you in order to get involved to? Peo De Pitte: Hmmm… When things started to get serious for me was probably 16 years ago when I played my first finished demo for legendary producer 'Stonebridge' (I was 18 then) in Sweden and got offered a recording deal. It all went from there. I've been doing a lot of different music since. Recordings of UK pirate radio when I was 13 got me really into electronic music though.
2.You’re nominated for an award at this years International Breaks Poll awards in London, are you excited about your nomination? How was your dj set at this years Breakspoll? Was it mainly Spanish breaks fans there like last year? Peo De Pitte: Yeah, it was really fun to get some recognition for the things I did last year. I've been doing 'rare-groove' oriented dance music in different genres for quite some time now and it's been hard to promote myself from Sweden. I think my move to London really changed things, also my own personal take on how to produce dance music. It was great to play with Cut La Roc, we have met a couple of times before but never played together. Loads of Spanish peeps there and massive with all those hands in the air!
3.Where is your favourite place to play so far and why? Do you play quite often in other countries? Peo De Pitte: I've had some really good gigs here in London but I'll be touring much more this year so I'm sure it will only get better!
4.How did you get your dj/producer name? Peo De Pitte: It's been with me for a long time. Me and a friend did some remixes under that name a long time ago and he used to call me Peo de Pitte and I called him something else obscene, we chucked it on the labelcopy just for fun. I just thought it was different so I kept it.
5.Whats up with the Stockholm scene? Is Stockholm where your from? Peo De Pitte: Yes, I'm born and bread in Stockholm. Stockholm has been very narrow-minded when it comes to anything else than minimal and house except for a little peak or broken stuff around 2002-2004. It was still like that when I moved 4 years ago so I can't really tell if it has changed now. Sweden don't really have much of a dance scene unfortunately as the government did it's best to kill it when it was new in the early 90'ies. We do have a lot of good producers and songwriters in Sweden though.
6. What remixes are you currently working on?
Peo De Pitte: I have a couple of secret bootlegs coming out this year ready to go. Will definitely let you know when times comes! Other than that I've just done a remix for my Swedish fella Yeah! Woho! and Cambridge man Mr.B which will come out soon, check both out in the DJ mix below. I will be focusing on more original material this year also as last year was a lot about remixing for me.
7.Do you mainly produce or dj? Peo De Pitte: I've been a DJ since I was 14 but studio takes up a lot of my time. Dunno really…
8.When and how have you started producing? What influenced and inspired you in order to produce music? Peo De Pitte: I have a long producer background, working with everything from pop to dance but I have always had a beats and dance feel to my productions. Early inspirations were Blapps Posse, Bomb the Bass, Trevor Horn, Prodigy, Mantronix, CJ Macintosh and others..
9.What does your studio consist of? Peo De Pitte: Mac, Neuman U87, a good API pre-amp for recording vocals, Genelec speakers and some other analogue secret stuff. Same as everyone else today though, really. I stripped my studio 4 years ago and sold the junk that didn't cut the mustard.
10. What are you using to produce nowadays? Logic audio? Live ? Cubase? Peo De Pitte: I've been using Logic since 14 years and sometimes ProTools. I'm starting to be quite fed up with Logic tbh. I might try other programs soon, seems like Apple can't keep up the competition anymore.
11.Your just remixed the "Drummatic Twins – Crazy Love, out on the well respected Finger lickn' Records label". What a wicked remix! Do you know the Drummatic Twins and how did this cool project come about and how was your artistic approach? Peo De Pitte: I never met them before but I have all their records and I've always been a big fan of Fingerlickin. When I'm doing a remix I always try to keep the main parts from the original song and do it with my approach. If the parts aren't any good there is not much I can do really. In this case I really liked the original and all the guys are Fingerlickin are great guys so it just turned out great.
12.Does inspiration come easily for you or do you have to strive for it? What’s inspiring you today? Peo De Pitte: Oh, it could be any music that is well produced and has a groove that appeals to me, that music comes from everywhere. I get hyped up if it's done properly with a phat mixdown and load of nice details. Last 3 years I totally stopped listening to old dance music as I wanted to explore only new things but recently I've started to dig up old gems and loads of the beat programming 5-10 years ago was really sick. Those things inspire me to sit down and get a track going. Fake Blood was the last producer that came with something really new when it comes to production, I'm a big fan!
13.Are there any plans for future works, dj gigs etc. Peo De Pitte: As we speak I'm just about to put together a tour in Australia and US this year. It would be fun to come to Canada and see you guys also, I've never been before. Production wise I've just finished a hard electro banger with The Loose Cannons and getting into the studio with Elite Force and some others.
14.Who’s currently rocking the Decks in your world and why? Peo De Pitte: I had some magic moments the last time I saw legendary hip hop pioneers "Cold Cut"… Nothing could beat that with VJ scratching and everything!
15.Can you please give us your all-time TOP10? Peo De Pitte All-time TOP10: 1: Blapps Posse - Bus it it's time to get busy (Check it out in the DJ mix below - had to stick it in) 2: Bomb the bass - Megablast 3: Chemical Brothers - Base 6 4: N-Joi - Malfunction 5: Drumattic Twins - Feelin kinda strange 6: Prodigy - No good 7: Plump DJ's remix of Electronauts Bumper 8: Fake Blood - Mars 9: The count of monte crystal - B more forward 10: Ian Pooley - 900 Degrees
It's a bit of old and new in here… There is tons of more but all these tracks have inspired me in my work.. I guess you see where I come from anyway.
17. Whats your favourite track that you have produced so far and why? Peo De Pitte: Those things change from time to time.. From last year I'm really happy with my Be my baby Remix and the Drummattic Twins remix. 18. Thank you for your fat mix. Can you please tell our readers about your mix? Peo De Pitte: Yeah.. It's in my usual mashup style with a lot of my own mashups and edits in there. But it's showcasing a night out with me from beginning to start squeezed into an hour.
19. Finally what are some of your words of wisdom? Peo De Pitte: If you're looking to get into music production or get your name out there. The only thing that matters is that you finish your tracks…
